Musk said that he is turning on Starlink in Iran in response to a tweet from US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The US government on Friday issued guidelines on expanding internet services for Iranians, despite US sanctions on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program. According to Reuters, the US official told that there is no need to get a license for Starlink. It will be commercial, for which they will need to write to the Treasury.

The US Department of Defense later stated that any person who meets the criteria set forth in this general license may carry on their activities without requesting additional permission. However, Elon Musk could not be reached for comment on Starlink’s approval to operate in Iran.
